About Samaritans Mumbai

Samaritans Mumbai is a suicide prevention helpline that provides confidential and anonymous emotional support to anyone who is distressed, depressed, or suicidal.

It is a fully qualified member of Befrienders India, the India chapter of Befrienders Worldwide.

Challenge

The helpline was getting a lot of male callers but barely any female callers even though suicide rates in 2019 were showing an increase in female suicides in India.

Solution

After identifying the upcoming Women's Day as an opportunity for the NGO, I proactively suggested that we make a video specifically urging women to call us.

How I Contributed

I was involved in the making of this no-budget video from conception and script writing to direction, including giving inputs in areas like cinematography, production design, music composition, editing, and posting.

We managed to give the assurance we intended to and went on to achieve a +300% increase in calls and a 360% increase in emails by female-identifying callers.
